RISE AND CONQUER: 4 LGBTQ+ Rappers You Need To Know
Historically, LGBTQ+ representation in hip hop has been incredibly low and disproportionately male dominated. Many queer entities have previously struggled to navigate a genre infamous for it’s widely homophobic and exclusionary language. However, with society progressing and a new generation coming through, the genre has now embraced inclusive attitudes and has seen an increasing amount LGBTQ+ talent to rise and conquer a genre previously geared against them… and here are four of our favourites.

JessB
Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, JessB is fronting a sound and movement that is relatively new to the Australasian music scene. On her latest mixtape ‘3 Nights in Amsterdam’, Jess playfully weaves her lyricism around afrobeat and dancehall inspired rhythms. JessB is bold, confident, and unapologetic and has attracted the attention of international stars, leading to her securing support slots for Stormzy, Little Simz, and YG.

BbyMutha
BbyMutha is unconcerned with reputation and the stigma surrounding single mothers – even her stage name is taken from an insult previously thrown at her. Slating the idea of what a mother should act like, her debut album “Muthaland” traverses hyper-sexuality, old memories, and previous traumatic experiences. Her unfiltered lyricism is refreshing and empowering. It’s an entertaining ride that will make you laugh, dance, reminisce, then get real raunchy with your man… or somebody else’s.

CHIKA
CHIKA made her first breakthrough on a track dissing Kanye’s support for Trump, something that resonates with most of us. She is not here for games or conforming, she is the voice of the marginalised and disenfranchised, and even Barack Obama is listening. Her latest release ‘My Power’ – which is featured in the Netflix original ‘Power Project’- is an empowering anthem about self-worth and perseverance. It’s an upbeat track that touches on CHIKA’s own struggle, but also her come up. The Gen Z icon not only makes the listener aware of their own potential, but also the power they have.

Dai Burger
Dai Burger’s latest release ‘Dessert’ is playful, sexually charged and sickly sweet. The empowering EP holds all the vibrant and sassy storylines of your nastiest fantasies. Booming bass and dripping in sex, this candyshop of sexual desire inspires you to embrace your sexuality and be confident within yourself.
