First rogues’ gallery released of people wanted over riots
Police are on the hunt for eight people accused of hurling bricks at officers and shouting racial slurs during a violent protest in Aldershot which emerged in the aftermath of the Southport attacks.
Around 200 people gathered to protest outside the Potters International Hotel on Wednesday evening, which is known to house migrants.
The appeal comes as riots have erupted across the country in locations such as Hartlepool and London following the rampage on Monday which saw three young girls killed.
A Home Office official has warned potential rioters ‘we will be watching you’ as fears continue to mount over a further escalation of far-right activity this weekend, with at least eight towns and cities feared to be at risk.
Flyers are being circulated online for rallies in Manchester, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Belfast, Bristol and Hull, with a range of counter-demonstrations also believed to be taking place.
Prime Minister Kier Starmer said ‘action will be taken’ towards those found to be involved in violent protest.
The 17-year-old boy charged with the murders of three young girls during a knife rampage at a holiday club in Southport can now be named as Axel Rudakubana.
It comes after the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Andrew Menary KC, took the ‘exceptional’ step of lifting reporting restrictions which previously banned him from being identified due to his age.
The court heard Rudakubana was due to turn 18 next week, on August 7. Judge Menary said: ‘Continuing to prevent the full reporting has the disadvantage of allowing others to spread misinformation, in a vacuum.’
