LONDON-BASED INDIE POP STARLET ANANYA UNVEILS DEEPLY PERSONAL NEW SINGLE ‘LONG JUMP’

London-based Zimbabwean artist ANANYA returns with ‘LONG JUMP’, a stirring new single that captures the bittersweet distance between childhood and adulthood. Following rave reviews for her recent offerings ‘Emotions’ and ‘Happy’, her critically acclaimed debut EP i woke up one night surpassing one million streams, and high praise from MTV, Wonderland, Notion, and Rolling Stone Africa, among others, Ananya continues to stake her place as one of the most heartfelt and introspective new voices in today’s pop music landscape. Her new single ‘Long Jump’ is a nostalgic yet clear-eyed meditation on the ache of growing up, the distance between past and present, and the quiet longing for home. Built on a driving soundscape, dreamy melodies, and delicate, emotionally raw lyricism, the song explores how the magic of childhood begins to fade, and what it means to carry that memory forward.

The track opens with wind chimes recorded at her childhood home in Harare – a detail so specific and evocative that it instantly transported her siblings back to their shared youth. Paired with the sounds of Zimbabwean birds and Ananya’s confessional songwriting, ‘Long Jump’ becomes a deeply personal yet universally relatable sonic time capsule. The raw and reflective lyrics see Ananya exploring themes of internal conflict, emotional disconnection, and the quiet hope that we’ll eventually figure it all out. Its emotional depth is matched by the track’s lush indiepop production, creating an intimate and anthemic soundscape. Speaking about how ‘Long Jump’ came together, Ananya reflects, “it just poured out of me. I reflect on my childhood quite often, how it shaped me, the love of a parent, and all the things I didn’t fully grasp as a kid that are only now becoming clear. It’s taught me to be more grateful”.

Through its emotional honesty and evocative textures, ‘Long Jump’ captures the push and pull of memory and identity. It is Ananya’s love letter to the past, her confrontation with the present, and a reminder to hold on to gratitude even when things feel uncertain. Excellently channelling nostalgia, the fear of growing up, and the bittersweet distance between who we were and who we are becoming, the aching and beautifully crafted indiepop track is her most emotionally vulnerable offering yet. With this song, Ananya continues her journey as a resonant storyteller with poetic vulnerability. Sharing the inspiration behind ‘Long Jump’, Ananya adds that “it came from my deep love and appreciation for my childhood and the painful reality of being so far from it now. Growing up is daunting, leaving behind the best days of your life and the place you once called home, now feeling more distant than ever”.
