Gen Z, Millennials Aim for Leadership and Value Flexibility

A recent survey by CBRE reveals that most Gen Z and Millennial workers in the UK are eager to advance in their careers. Among the respondents, 74% aspire to become business department leaders, while 62% aim for C-Suite positions. The research gathered insights from over 750 young professionals. It highlights a strong desire among these generations to climb the corporate ladder and enjoy the financial rewards of leadership roles.

Interestingly, the study challenges the belief that younger workers frequently change jobs. Many respondents showed a willingness to stay long-term with one employer. This reflects a commitment to stability and career growth within a single organization.

However, the data shows a gender gap in leadership aspirations. Men are more likely than women to seek senior roles. Thirty percent of women said they aren’t interested in the pressures of high-level positions. This disparity raises concerns about future leadership diversity. Georgina Fraser, Head of Human Capital Consulting at CBRE UK, emphasizes that diverse leadership is crucial for attracting top talent.

Flexibility emerged as the most valued workplace feature, with 38% of respondents naming it as their top priority. This underscores the importance of adaptable work environments for future leaders. While Millennials prioritized wellbeing, Gen Z placed a stronger emphasis on leadership within their top workplace features.

Despite the focus on flexibility, 79% of respondents still value having access to an office outside their homes. This highlights the enduring importance of team collaboration, location, and dedicated workspaces in today’s hybrid work culture.
